When we step out of our comfort zone or normal state of being for any reason – or in any way – our first reaction is often to close down. We want to protect ourselves, our reality, our equilibrium – to remain a detached observer (at best) so we don’t threaten or sully our sense of the world around us.
What if instead of needing to protect ourselves from a different way of doing things or a different way of thinking, we saw it as an opportunity? What if we saw it as an open-door invitation from the universe to try on something new, to just be curious, even for a few short minutes? Is it possible that my loosening our grip on our way, we make room for new possibiliites? Or at the very least, maybe we develop some empathy or appreciation for alternatives and differences?
You don’t have to travel to foreign lands to try this out. Read a book by an author from outside your country or with an opposite opinion from yours, try a new kind of food you have never had before, take a different route to work or on your morning run, do a task with your non-dominant hand . . .get curious and take a peek at what’s out there to discover!
